The Bank of Ghana has denied reports that it plans to sell its new Accra headquarters under a sale and leaseback deal, calling the claims false and misleading.

In a statement on Tuesday, the central bank said it was not considering, discussing or planning any sale of the building and asked the public to disregard the speculation.

The denial followed a report, citing unnamed sources, that the bank’s management was weighing a sale and leaseback of the headquarters, reported to have cost about 260 million dollars, to raise cash and strengthen its balance sheet, a move said to have split its directors.

The Bank of Ghana posted a net operating loss of about 15.63 billion cedis for 2025, keeping its finances under scrutiny. The new headquarters, known as The Bank Square and opened in 2024, replaced an ageing office the bank had judged unsafe.

The bank warned that unverified claims of this kind could dent confidence in the financial system and create needless market uncertainty. It urged media houses to confirm information through its official channels and said the headquarters remained a critical operational asset that it had no plans to dispose of.
