Government has been asked not to give concession to large scale timber operators because they tend to destroy large tracks of the forest reserve in the process unlike the chainsaw operators.

The appeal was made by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Nhyira Furniture works in Agona Sweduro Mr Isaac Kumi Aidoo who said rather, chainsaw operators must be made to pay taxes to allow them to operate as they do not fall large quantity of trees to destroy the forest as their large concession counterparts.

According to him, where the activities of the chainsaw operators support the wood work industry large concession operators fall the trees for export.

He said the unavailability of wood has contributed to high cost of furniture forcing people to buy the imported ones.

He also lamented over the lack of support for the wood work industry in the area of supply of machinery by the government.

Mr Isaac Kumi Aidoo said if that happens it will create more job opportunities in the country .
