Speaker Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin has opened an integrity and governance training programme for Parliamentary Service staff in Accra, framing ethics as central to the fight against corruption.

Addressing participants, Mr Bagbin called integrity “the strongest antidote to corruption” and the basis of public trust. He said confidence in state institutions must be earned through ethical behaviour rather than assumed.

The Speaker urged staff to engage fully with the sessions and apply the lessons in their work, and to help build a workplace culture rooted in accountability and professionalism.

The programme was organised jointly by the Legal and Governance Services Office, the Parliamentary Training Institute and the Human Resource Department. It forms part of efforts to implement the Corruption Risk Mitigation Plan that Parliament adopted in 2024.

Clerk to Parliament Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror said the training would deepen staff understanding of the code of conduct for public officers, alongside grievance handling and service delivery. He described Parliament as a bastion of democracy bound to uphold transparency and accountability.

Mr Djietror reminded staff that public service is a sacrifice rather than a route to profit, urging them to serve with sincerity and commitment to the public good. Organisers say the initiative supports Parliament’s wider push to strengthen ethical standards and public confidence in Ghana’s democracy.
