It appears the much-anticipated ?Judgment Night? bout between professional boxers Bukom Banku (Braimah Kamoko) and Ayitey Powers might be called off for spiritual reasons.
Reports suggest that the famous Prophet T.B. Joshua of the Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN) in Nigeria, who had one of his wise men deliver Ayitey Powers from demonic powers, has advised the boxer not to fight Bukom Banku on the scheduled day ? April 18, 2014.
Speaking on Accra-based Joy FM?s Super Morning Show yesterday, Powers stated: ?As for me I want to fight but if God says I cannot fight, I will not fight.?
According to the boxer, he was prepared to fight Bukom Banku on any day apart from the said date because his spiritual father, T.B. Joshua ordered it.
Several Ghanaians who had hopes of watching the two boxers battle it out in the ring at the Accra Sports Stadium were taken aback by Ayitey Powers? last minute turn-around.
Many were those who condemned him in no uncertain terms for the sudden u-turn, with some describing him as a ?brave coward? who is trying to pull out of the bout for fear of being humiliated in defeat on the much-awaited ?Judgment Night?.
However, Ayitey Powers vehemently disputed the claim, saying he could not risk disobeying the wise counsel of his spiritual father.
?I?m not afraid of Banku. I know him and I?m not afraid of him. I didn?t sue the promoters when they changed (the date) so why should they sue me if I say I won?t fight?? he said.
Meanwhile, NEWS-ONE has also gathered that the Ghana Boxing Association (GBA) has sanctioned the popular bout to go on as planned.
If Ayitey Powers goes ahead with his plan to boycott the fight, indications are that he could be made to pay double the amount of the purse he received from the promoters of the bout, aside the looming legal suit by the sponsors.
Apart from that, he is likely to also face a three-year ban from international boxing.
