The sequel to ?The Avengers? beat the first movie with its opening day numbers, earning $84.5 million on its release on Friday, May 1 compared to the first movie?s $80.8 million. It was just behind the all-time best opening day of ?Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II? which earned $91.7 million in its first day back in 2011.
?Avengers: Age of Ultron? opening day gross is also the biggest ever for a superhero flick. It has grossed a total of $627 million worldwide.
?The Age of Adaline? starring Blake Lively snagged the second place with an estimated $6.3 million in its second weekend, bringing its total to nearly $23.4 million. ?Furious 7? followed behind with approximately $6.1 million while ?Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2? landed fourth with an estimated $5.5 million for a domestic total of $51.2 million. Animated flick ?Home (2015)? earned an estimated $3.3 million for the fifth place while ?Cinderella? took the sixth place with approximately $2.4 million.
Anticipated hits for this summer also include ?Jurassic World?, ?Terminator Genisys?, ?Ant-Man?, ?Pitch Perfect 2? and ?Mad Max: Fury Road?.
