Finance Minister Cassiel Ato Forson has moved to the top of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer standings for the first time, securing 32 per cent support in the latest quarterly tracker by Global InfoAnalytics, up from 23 per cent in December 2025, according to data released Thursday morning.

The poll, discussed by Global InfoAnalytics Executive Director Mussa Dankwah on the Asaase Breakfast Show, places NDC National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketiah second with 25 per cent. Haruna Iddrisu, who led the race for most of the previous tracking rounds, fell to third with 23 per cent.

The survey covered approximately 11,500 respondents across all regions of Ghana using face-to-face, telephone and online methods, with a confidence level of 99 per cent and a margin of error of 2.4 per cent.

Dankwah attributed Ato Forson’s rise in part to positive voter perceptions of his economic management, a trend that mirrors earlier Global InfoAnalytics head-to-head data showing him as the NDC’s strongest performer against likely New Patriotic Party (NPP) standard-bearer Mahamudu Bawumia in 2028.

The data also pointed to a generational shift in voter sentiment. Dankwah noted a growing preference for younger leadership among voters under 44 years, a cohort that represents a significant slice of Ghana’s electoral base.

He cautioned, however, against reading the results as a firm prediction. “This is a poll, not a forecast. It reflects what people are saying today and things can change,” he said.

The next quarterly update is expected in the middle of 2026. The NDC is constitutionally required to hold a flagbearer election ahead of the 2028 general elections.
