School Appeal

Mr. Godfrey Ekuban, Chairman of Assin-Nyankomasi basic school Parent -Teachers’ Association (PTA) has appealed to the Government to urgently support the school with the requisite infrastructure to aid teaching and learning.

He also appealed to stakeholders and institutions to support the school with teaching materials to improve student’s retention to reduce the high dropout rate.

Making the appeal through the Ghana News Agency (GNA), Mr Ekuban said the school had achieved a lot but the absence of computer laboratory, sports equipment and inadequate classrooms have led to difficulty in teaching and learning.

The teaching of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in the school was seriously challenged with the over 600 student population using only four laptops.

Mr Ekuban mentioned encroachments, religious activities on school compounds and bad roads in the school as great setback to achieving its vision to deliver its best.

He expressed concern about the dilapidated school buildings with multiple cracks on the walls and floors, ripped-up roofing and broken windows.

Sadly, residents had also turned parts of the school into refuse dump-sites and a places of convenience.

“Pupils are forced to sweep heaps of such nuisance (toilet) before classes every day. This is disheartening and a drawback to smooth academic work,” he stressed.

He advocated that the school be added to the school feeding program saying, “providing one hot meal a day would mean a lot to the children. It would without doubt help to substantially increase the enrolment and retention of the pupils.”

He appealed to all stakeholders to contribute their quota since it was imperative that the dividend of investments in education was realised.

“Education is about the future and destiny” he said and urged parents to see their children’s educational needs as equally important and provide them with their needs to give them a brighter future.
