Legna Construction Limited, a firm contracted to construct the 5.7 kilometre Ashaiman Timber Market Roundabout-Adjei-Kojo underpass dual carriage road, is demanding arrears for work done in Tema.

According to Augustine Dadzie, Legna Engineer, government owes the company five contract certificates for road projects constructed in Tema.

Mr Dadzie noted that the company secured loans at high interest rates to construct the Tema roads.

He made this known during a tour of the site by the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, Alfred Kwami Agbesi who inspected progress of work after about four months.

The Minister for Roads and Highways, Joseph Kingsford Gidisu in July, this year terminated the contract of Lomex Construction due to ineffectiveness and non-performance.

Owing to the deplorable roads in Ashaiman, the sector minister directed urban roads officials to replace Lomex Construction with a competent and astute contractor, so the contract was awarded to Legna Construction LTD.

Mr. Dadzie was of the view that government had failed to pay them for constructing 13.4 km roads at Baba Yara, Okraku, Republic, Central Business centre, Padmore as well as Communities 4, 7, 8 and 9.

According to him, Legna Construction LTD undertook major asphaltic overlay on the aforementioned roads.

Dadzie said that his outfit has almost completed drains started by the former contractor, Lomex Construction in Ashaiman, among others.

Hon. Alfred Kwami Agbesi refuted the accusations of the road engineer, noting that the Ashaiman road project is a pre-finance project, hence the contactor does not need mobilization or funds from government to commence work.
