Hon. Engineer George Kofi Arthur, former Member of Parliament for Amenfi Central, is emerging as a strong contender for the Western Regional Chairmanship of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). He brings to the race more than a decade of parliamentary service, solid party credentials, and wide-ranging professional experience in engineering, education, and governance.
Born on February 24, 1969, at Wassa Agona Amenfi, Arthur served three consecutive terms in Parliament from 2005 to 2017. He became known for his committee leadership, policy expertise, and disciplined approach to institutional work. His academic record spans education, engineering, and governance, with qualifications from the Presbyterian College of Education, the University of Education, Winneba, and GIMPA.
Professionally, he has worked as a teacher, engineer, and construction specialist, contributing to major road projects across the Western and Western North Regions. These roles gave him practical insight into regional development challenges, particularly in infrastructure and employment.
Within the NDC, Arthur has held grassroots and national roles, including General Secretary of the Mpohor Constituency and membership on the National Communications Team. His parliamentary committee work covered Roads and Transport, Defence and Interior, Agriculture, Housing, and Public Accounts, where he served as Chairman of Defence and Interior and Deputy Ranking Member of Public Accounts for over a decade.
