I find it very interestingly curious that those of our Igbo clan who consistently claim not to belong to APGA are now jumping over one another pontificating as on high ?on how best to move APGA forward? They are so obsessed with their phantom APGA that they believe that current Peter Obi led APGA is a farce without Chekwas at the head of affairs in Anambra. To them APGA as a political party??is comatose and will remain so until the almighty Chekwas is handed over his ?prized trophy? ? APGA.??It seems that some on the fender bender end cannot wait to resurrect Chekwas and of course to them Gov Obi is a villain in spite of all he did to keep APGA alive these eight years in face of double dealing Chekwas.
No surprise but I am waiting to hear them even begin to argue that Ngige ?Chekwas side kick at the time and a co traveler in political mischief – should be cajoled, pleaded perhaps with a handsome monetary sweetener to come and save APGA perhaps as a deputy to Chekwas. Recall how Chekwas against all good counsel from the elders of the party decided to force a beleaguered Ngige on APGA for quick bucks. He was quickly called to order by the party apparatus; asked to retread his dangerous anti party steps. But Chekwas true to character, would not budge.??He became so thick headed. He wanted Ngige by all means and thus turned his back on his party. Peter Obi and APGA was in court to reclaim his stolen mandate but this modern day Generalissimo??Francisco Franco was ready to ditch his party in distress for quick and easy lucre. He was ready to sell out. And he did. What a character.Interestingly none of his current apostles has mind to challenge Chekwas to prove his popularity by winning even a councilor seat in his home town. This is the least one expects of him since his reckless thumbing of his nose on the party and jumping ship to form his own party which he oversees as an ultimate and maximum ruler – the eze onye agwanam). No, not necessary really. Chekwas to them is the acclaimed shadowy political kingmaker only in faraway Anambra state. Any other expectations from him to prove his political mettle or sagacity???is mere embellishment? (with due apology to Mazi MOE). Chekwas wants Anambra state APGA in his pocket and his pocket alone. Period.???What a political wonder boy we have in this guy.
Umuibe, let?s stop this nonsense about Chekwas forming ?APGA in his closet.???Hey one recalls that our own Ekwueme makes the same claims on PDP. And so???APGA like a true political party is never a one man show. No one ever forms a party; such balderdash needs to be expunged from our current debate. Besides, we cannot afford another double dealing Rochas Okorocha on our political shores.??As well advised, engaging in the same behavior repeatedly and expecting a better result is a classic definition on insanity.
APGA IS NEVER A ONE-MAN SHOW IT IS MORE THAN THAT.
But the fact remains that Chekwas was legally thrown out APGA for subversive activities. No one party member should ever delude himself to believe that he?s above the rules and regulation of the party.
I believe that Mazi Nwakanma in one of his memorable essays on the same topic titled:?As I see it; Chekwas Okorie and APGA latest??put it more succinctly when he opined :
?A political party is not a family business. It is never “founded” by an individual. Indeed, anybody who knows the actual history of the party will understand that the real thinkers behind the APGA – people like Ben Obumselu or even the late Chuba Okadigbo, just to mention a few were shunted out of the party by later events. Chekwas did not “found” the APGA. The party was formed through a process that later threw him up, first as interim chair, then as party chair, and in the realistic processes in which personal interests clash within parties, he was removed as party chair. ?Chekwas was fighting a loser’s battle. The courts have quashed his locus standi, and it is based on one clear fact: that the rules of association grants the party organ greater validity than the personal interest of an individual?within it. The political solution or the options?left for him are (a) apologize to the party and reapply for membership and seek to be readmitted on the party’s terms (b) Forswear the party, declare for another and challenge the APGA, its candidates and its agents at the polls. ?
Said enough? And our own Zebrudayah would intone: ?Ka Chukwu gozia okwua.???I now rest my case.
Ya gazie?Nwamazi
