AngloGold Ashanti transforms communities

Management of the AngloGold Ashanti, the world’s third leading gold producer, has disclosed the company has constructed multi-million dollar modern housing estates on the hills of Akyimpim village in the Wassa Fiase Traditional Area in the Western Region.

According to the Chief Executive of AngloGold Ashanti, Mr. Mark Citifani, the initial phase would see the construction of 50 houses and the progressive nature of these houses was that they are been built by Ghanaian contractors and with 100 per cent local employees.

Mr. Citifani disclosed this to journalists when the managers of AngloGold Ashanti toured the facility recently.

Encouraged by the improved fundamentals of the economy, he commended Ghanaian employees and contractors working for the company for their immense contribution to AngloGold Ashanti and Ghana as a whole.

He added that the company will continue to support the current drive to expand and modernize the Iduapriem and Obuasi operations in order to realize their long term potentials.

He noted that the Obuasi and Iduapriem mines are the two AngloGold Ashanti mines in the country and the two of them produce over 500,000 ounces of gold annually.

Mr. Citifani intimated that with current investment to support their transformation, the two mines have the potentials to produce more ounces, which will benefit not only the companies and the communities but Ghana as a whole.

AngloGold Ashanti is currently employing 9000 people.

He said Iduapriem and Obuasi are currently undergoing transformation to enable them produce more gold in the near future, which will enable current AngloGold Ashanti production go up. The Chief Executive expressed his happiness with the strategy been pursued to ensure the transformation of projects and urged employees to engage the people in the communities with view to getting their support.

The Senior Vice President of AngloGold Ashanti, Mr. Peter Anderton, who outlined what management was doing to transform the operations, also commended the company’s employees for their steadfastness and eagerness to ensure the progress of the mines.

He said that AngloGold Ashanti mines has great potentials and that the ground work is being done to put the two operations in good stead to produce more gold to meet the company’s commitment to stakeholders.
