Ghana’s 2026 World Cup squad is the country’s weakest for a major tournament in 20 years, sports analyst Hans Mensah Andoh said on Tuesday, citing thin quality and poor cohesion.

Speaking on the Asaase Breakfast Show, Andoh said the squad of 26 named for the finals in the United States, Canada and Mexico falls short of past Black Stars teams at both the World Cup and the Africa Cup of Nations.

Beyond individual talent, he argued, the team lacks unity. “This is not the strongest we’ve had in a very long time,” he said, pointing to deeper structural problems in Ghanaian football.

Andoh tempered the criticism, accepting that the selection may still be the best pool available, with only a handful of debatable omissions. At this moment, he said, it was probably the best the country could field.

The squad has split opinion among supporters, with confidence reported as low ahead of the tournament. Ghana, at their fifth World Cup, open in Group L against Panama in Toronto on 17 June, before facing England and Croatia.
