An Overview for Instructional Design

0

Instructional Design is the process by which instruction is enhanced through the process of learning needs analysis and the development of learning materials. Technology and multimedia may be used as tools to enhance instruction.?Best practices” and proven teaching methods can make the instructional design model more effective for the learner.Instructional Design is essentialto address the specific learning needs and makelearnerssuccessful through proper presentation of content and promotion of interaction.

An instructional designer leveragesproven instructional system design (ISD) models and theories for instructional design. The ADDIE model is the most commonly used in instructional design. The five phases of the ADDIE model are analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. According to Dick and Carey, “Components such as the instructor, learners, materials, instructional activities, delivery system, and learning and performance environments interact with each other and work together to bring about the desired student learning outcomes”.Instructional theories are also used by instructional designers to develop learning material. Robert Gagn? is known for creating the nine events of instruction that are widely accepted as a standard. According to Gagn?, learning occurs in a series of learning events; each learning event must be completed before the next for learning to take place.Techtrain implements an Adaptive ADDIE instructional design model for developing interactive elearning modules in an iterative and collaborative manner.

Case studies

MicroAssist worked with the Food and Nutrition Training group to convert Instructor-Led Training (ILT) into online training for the Texas Department of Agriculture’s Food and Nutrition Group.

The training material was hosted through a new custom Learning Management System (LMS), reducing costs considerably.
The client was handling several large and small projects across and within business lines. Projects did not give a desired outcome or meet the project goal because common terminology, language and a uniform project management process were absent. The client required a company-wide process for project management along with a culture of accountability and responsibility to tasks, responsibilities, and results.Total Training Solutions developed a custom Project Management curriculum that included a Project Management course and other courses for Project Managers. Total Training Solutions facilitated the instructor-led training sessions for all facets of the Project Management curriculum.

Learning Designs partnered with Kettering University and RWD Technologies to form Sigma Learning, LLC. This organization provided Delphi with an integrated training and education system to serve its global employee base. From 2001 to 2008, Sigma Learning provided instructor-led and web-based training as well as support and maintenance.
This resulted in one centralized point of contact to communicate, launch and monitor learning programs. Expenses related to off-site training initiatives were reduced to a great extent. There were several more benefits financially.
