As the most loved brand in the daily lives of Ghanaians, Airtel Ghana opened up the competition to its cherished customers making it easy for them to register for the marathon bringing convenience to the marathoners through the online registration payment system.

Determined not to be left out of the biggest marathon event in the country, Airtel Ghana employees formed a running club to actively train and participate in the event.
The Human Resource Department planned, organized and directed in-house marathon preparations which saw staff in vigorous training sessions prior to the race. Race director, Haile Gebrselassie commended the management and employees of Airtel Ghana when he visited their offices on 3rd September. He said “I can see Airtel Ghana is not only sponsoring this marathon but preparing its employees to actively participate.
This is highly commendable. It appears Airtel is determined to prove to everybody that an international marathon could be run in Ghana. I am impressed.”
On 5th September, the most loved telco family led by Lucy Quist, Managing Director and her leadership team actively participated in the race with enthusiasm to show how far the company could go to prove Ghana’s potential to host an event of such international prominence.
As Airtel’s HR Director, Tina Muparadzi puts it, “from the very day Airtel showed interest in the marathon, we knew we had a race to run. At Airtel we do not sponsor what we do not believe in, hence, we are poised to actively participate in this marathon. We believe in the power of Now and the inherent potential in each and every one of us to achieve and be the best we can be”.
The half marathon begun from the Independence Square in Accra through some of the principal streets in Accra.
The international marathon, directed by Haile Gebrselassie, one of Africa’s greatest and the World’s most distinctive long distance runners will go down as one of the biggest and most patronised running events in the country.
Airtel’s highly embraced Free Facebook service played a vital role before, during and after the event as family and friends freely uploaded and shared race photos onto their Facebook pages bringing people together and increasing awareness on the marathon.
