Ghanaian media personality and influencer Afua Asantewaa has publicly confirmed that her marriage to sports journalist Kofi Owusu Aduonum is in trouble, disclosing that the two are separated, while her husband has pushed back against the claims.

In a TikTok live session with Prophet Fire Oja on March 31, 2026, Afua Asantewaa announced that she and her husband were separated but not yet divorced, saying the separation was due to a “good cause” but declining to go into much detail.

She stated: “I am not divorced. We are separated for a good cause, and I am gradually healing. It is not any big deal.”

Following the announcement, the founder of Ghanaian media platform GhPage reportedly contacted Kofi Owusu Aduonum for a response. He is said to have denied any claims of separation or divorce, insisting the couple remained together and asking the public to dismiss reports suggesting otherwise.

In a follow-up live session, Afua opened up about the specific grievances behind the breakdown. Among the concerns she raised was what she described as a consistent lack of public support from her husband, a veteran journalist with over 30 years of experience. She noted that despite his standing in the media, he had not publicly defended her during the widespread criticism she faced online, with the exception of one moment during her singathon. “My partner is a journalist with over 30 years of experience, yet he has never come out to defend me,” she said.

She clarified that although they were no longer together, they remained legally married, and added that she was currently healing from the emotional impact of the situation.

Speculation about Afua Asantewaa’s marriage had been building since July 2025, after she shared a video on social media that triggered online debate. Questions intensified further after she relocated to Canada with the couple’s children, with many observers connecting the move to possible marital difficulties.

The story took a further turn when during a subsequent live session, Afua was seen in the kitchen with her 13-year-old eldest daughter, Afua Etruwaa, during which she removed her wedding ring. When asked if she still knew her father, Etruwaa nodded in agreement, a moment that drew significant reaction online.

The unfolding developments have divided public opinion, with some Ghanaians urging the couple to resolve their issues privately while others have expressed support for Afua.
