According to our information the Aflao BNI has formed what many people at the ports described as ?a money making venture.? This Task Force is located within Customs restricted area.

Their modus operandi is to take money from vehicles moving or loading within the Aflao car park complex.
The officers in charge on daily basis charge GH?5.00 for each car that load within the complex.
However, transport owners have raised questions whether the BNI, a state institution that is mandated to investigate crime together with the National Security, in checking tax invasion is now turned into a revenue collection Agency for government?

They have called on the President to set a committee to investigate this anomaly taking place on our borders.
According to some people who have been paying such monies on daily basis, they don?t understand why BNI, as a state security institution which oversees matters of the counterintelligence and security of Ghana both internal security and external security will be involved in such activities.

Bureau of National Investigations, BNI is an integral part of the National Security Council having investigative jurisdiction to arrest or detain and interrogate over a wide range of criminal offenses.]
Among the duties of the BNI are dealing with organized crime and financial crime, and providing intelligence to counter threats to Ghana’s national security.

However, activities at the Aflao border are giving a rather different look to the activities of the BNI.
The Bureau of National Investigations |BNI is legally a creature of, The Security and Intelligence Agencies Act (Act 526) 1996, having been continued in existence by Section 10 of that Act.
