The 10 day workshop will help published and unpublished writers hone their craft
Farafina Trust is receiving entries for the 2012 edition of its annual creative writing workshop scheduled to hold in Lagos from August 14 to August 24 2012.
The workshop, to be facilitated by award-winning writer and creative director of Farafina Trust, Chimamanda Adichie, is aimed at improving the craft of Nigerian writers.
Other facilitators include Caine Prize-winning Kenyan writer, Binyavanga Wainaina, and Jeffery Allen.
During the workshop, participants will be assigned a wide range of reading exercises, as well as daily writing exercises.
The workshop will encourage published and unpublished African writers by bringing different perspectives to the art of storytelling.
Participation is limited only to those who apply and are accepted.
Interested writers are to send a 200-800 word writing sample (fiction or non-fiction) in the body of an email to [email protected]. The email should also include name, address and a few sentences about the writer.
The deadline for submissions is June 25, 2012 and those accepted to the workshop will be notified by July 31, 2012.
Furthermore, a literary evening of readings open to the public, will be held at the end of the workshop.
Some of the writers who have participated in the workshop in the past are award-winning Tolu Ogunlesi; Eghosa Imasuen, author of ‘To Saint Patrick’ and ‘Fine Boys’; and Jekwu Anyaegbuna who is on the shortlist for the 2012 Commonwealth Short Story prize.
