Accra, the regional capital of the vibrant West African nation Ghana, recently pulsed with vibrant energy as it played host to the 15th African Leadership Magazine (ALM) Persons of the Year (POTY) Awards. Convening under the powerful theme, “Leadership for a New Africa: Forging Our Peace, Owning Our Narrative,” the multi-day event proved to be a defining masterclass in Pan-African excellence, drawing together a formidable assembly of visionaries, former presidents, prime ministers, and emerging leaders.

The gathering featured an illustrious roster of African statesmen and leaders. Among the notable attendees were Prime Minister Samuel Matekane of Lesotho, Former President of Ghana John Agyekum Kufuor, and Attorney General Dr. Dominic Ayine, who represented H.E. John Dramani Mahama. The event also prominently featured the ALO Advisory Board’s top leadership: Chairman H.E. Dr. Jakaya Kikwete, Former President of Tanzania, and Vice Chairperson H.E. Dr. Jewel Howard-Taylor, Former Vice President of Liberia.

The consensus that emerged from the multi-day dialogues went far beyond standard political rhetoric. Leaders tackled a wide spectrum of the continent’s most pressing challenges, agreeing that true ownership of the African narrative requires closing critical gaps in healthcare, expanding access to quality education, and building robust infrastructure. Crucially, the conversations highlighted that political will must be married to rigorous science, technology, and youth-driven innovation to translate high-level policy into tangible, data-driven action on the ground.

At the center of this historic convening is Dr. Ken Giami, CEO of the African Leadership Organization. Dr. Giami’s visionary efforts continue to shape the ALM POTY Awards into a premier platform for continental progress. As was eloquently noted during the proceedings, the environment cultivated by Dr. Giami acts as a mirror for Africa, a reflective space where the continent can look at herself, acknowledge her vast, untapped resources, and realize she has exactly what it takes to forge her own future.
