Reports suggest that the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 7, Suleiman Abba, is being considered to take over from the retiring Inspector-General, Mohammed Abubakar.
The incumbent, Abubakar, will step down as the Inspector-General on Thursday after attaining the mandatory 35 years in service.
The new Inspector-General is expected to be announced on Wednesday after the Federal Executive Council meeting presided over by President Jonathan.
