The Mankrado of Gomoa Akyempim in the Central Region has charged government to urgently abolish the shift system practiced in public basic schools in his area and in the entire region.
Speaking to Today, Nana Kwadwo Kwaakyere said ?because of the existence of the shift system, school children in the area are reluctant to go to school.?
H went on to add that school children rely on the situation to deceive adults in the area.
?When school children are met roaming in town in the morning and are questioned why they were not in school. They reply that they are in the afternoon session? and when they are asked in the afternoon, they reply that they are in the morning session and have closed from school,? Nana Kwadwo said.
According to him, the shift system has made many of the pupils to take to fishing, game hunting and crab catching in the area.
This, he said, has consistently accounted for basic schools in the area scoring zero per cent in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE.)
The chief also called for more basic schools to be built in the area to help abolish the shift system.
