Gomoa Central Member of Parliament Kwame Asare Obeng, widely known as A Plus, held investment talks with Chinese institutions and industrial firms in Guangzhou to secure partners for the proposed Gomoa Special Economic Zone (SEZ), as Ghana moves to establish a regional manufacturing base in West Africa.

Obeng met with Guangdong Nanyue Institution and Tree Ligo Company during the outreach, where both sides reviewed the financing and implementation roadmap for the zone and explored partnerships spanning infrastructure, automotive manufacturing and technical training.

Tree Ligo discussions focused on developing an automobile and auto parts market within the SEZ, complemented by plans for technical service and training centers to equip Ghanaian workers with skills for maintaining Chinese vehicle brands and electric vehicles.

The lawmaker also toured automobile trading hubs and spare parts markets across Guangzhou to study China’s automotive supply chain ecosystem and evaluate how comparable commercial structures could be adapted for Ghana.

Invitations were extended to global automotive and industrial brands including BYD, Tesla and MG Motor, as well as mining and construction equipment dealers, to attend the Gomoa Industrial Fair scheduled for November 27 to 29. Organizers expect the event to serve as a platform for investment promotion, technology transfer and business-to-business deal-making.

Ghana has steadily expanded its pursuit of special economic zones and industrial parks to diversify the economy, accelerate local manufacturing and generate employment in sectors such as automotive assembly, logistics and light industry. Authorities have also positioned the country as an entry point for companies seeking access to the broader continent through the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
