Dar es Salaam Special Police Zone Commander Suleiman Kova told reporters in the city that the arrested suspects were allegedly found in possession of various items related to crime including firearms, rounds of ammunitions and fake notes.
He said that some of the suspects were found in possession of four firearms including a Revolver pistol with number TZCAR 96093 and eleven bullets in the magazine, a Shotgun with three rounds of ammunition, Norinco pistol with registration number TZCAR101653 and one bullet and Browning pistol with number A558651 together with ten rounds of ammunition.
?These operations are aimed at eradicating wave of crimes to make the city residents as well as visitors from other regions and guests from abroad live and conduct their activities safely,? Commander Kova said.
According to him, the crimes include a wide range of offences such as armed robbery, house breaking, living in the country without permission, destroying infrastructure, sellers and users of drugs.
Other offences include gambling, sale and consumption of local liquor which is commonly known as ?gongo,? prostitution, traffic offences, as well as other crimes.
He further said that some of the suspects were also found with 1,022 liters of ?gongo?, 47 kilogrammes of marijuana, 131 bundles, 1,748 rolls and 2,210 pellets of marijuana and 20 bundles of khat.
He said that traffic cases for this period were 34,641 and total fines for the offenses is 103,9242,000/-.
He has asked residents of Dar es Salaam and neighbouring regions to continue cooperating with the police force,in an effort to combat crimes in order to eradicate the wave of crimes which threaten peace in the city.
