The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) in the Volta Region is undertaking a massive technical beef-up of its supply systems to raise the quality of power to consumers.

wpid-ecgb.jpgThe systems beef-up programme, dubbed System Improvement Project (SIP), would also minimise loses to the company and reinforce network structures.

A statement issued by the Public Relations Unit of the ECG Regional Office, in Ho, and copied to the GNA, said SIP in the Volta Region ?involves the replacement of sub-standard conductors and rotten wooden poles, as well as increasing the power capacity of the areas with over loaded transformers?.

Communities that would benefit from the SIP include Tanyigbe, Leklebi-Dafor, Liati Agbonya, Fodome towns, Sokode Etoe, Akoepe towns and Akrofu-Agove.

The statement said the systems? overhaul was going along with extension of power to un-served areas in rural areas and peripheries of urban communities, and ?in each beneficiary community, Low Voltage (LV) lines and transformers with adequate capacities to accommodate the demands of the population were provided.?

Mr Bernard Tetteh, ECG Regional Engineer, mentioned the Green Valley in Ho Kukurantumi and Ananikope in the Kadjebi District and Logba-Hoglikope in the Afadjato-South District as some of the un-served areas that have had power lately, with many more on line to have it.

Mr Tetteh explained that extending power to un-served areas had benefited the around 3,000 residents there giving them more livelihood opportunities.
