The Bawku police have arrested about 45 suspects in connection with the clashes between Mamprusis and Kusasis in Bazua in the Binduri district of the Upper East region.
The clash which reportedly started between two people at Bazua on Thursday was later extended to Bawku where members of the two ethnic groups attacked the other.
According to Bawku Police Commander ACP Kwaku Boadu Peprah, the Bawku attacks were in reaction to the clash at Bazua.
ACP Boadu Peprah narrated what led to the clashes to Citi News.
He said ? the clashes started with an argument between two people and degenerated into people attacking some houses in Bazua. So we proceeded to the place before even we got there the military had already been there. We did not see anybody we were made to understand that the situation was under control and then those who even came there to disturb had gone.?
According to him, the police ?thought that all was over but not quite long some people came and reported that they were attacked and as a result of that some of them have been hospitalized. So we proceeded and met about three guys who sustained some injuries.?
He also recounted that, on Friday, a Mamprusi woman also came to the Police station to report that she was attacked by some unidentified men.
ACP Peprah said his team is preparing to screen the 45 people arrested to identify the real attackers.
He added that though there is calm in the area, they will continue with their patrol to maintain peace in Bawku.
