The 3 suspected killers arrested with an assortment of weapons

Three persons suspected to be part of a group of people that allegedly killed Nii Kwaku Bibini, the disputed chief of Oblogo near Weija in Accra, have been nabbed by the police.

They were arrested along with the weapons they allegedly used in committing the heinous crime.

The suspects, Samuel Kpormegbe, 32, a resident of Gbawe Blue Cross, Samuel Tettey, 24, of Weija, and Otukunor Sackey, 32, also from Weija, are being held by the police.

The items found on them included a pump action gun, two locally-manufactured pistols, three cartridges, 6 machetes, one Bionet knife, a toy gun, an Okapey knife, a hand saw blade, and six mobile phones.

The three were arrested at their hideout at Gbawe Blue Cross by a joint military and police patrol team around 4:00am on Saturday.

Nii Kwaku Bibini, 47, was killed in cold blood on Easter Sunday, April 8, 2012 around 4:00pm in a vicious attack by a rival chieftaincy group at his residence at Oblogo.

DAILY GUIDE gathered that the chief’s head was also hammered with a huge nail by his attackers prior to his death at about 4:00pm.

Eight people were earlier arrested but after a screening exercise, six suspects were freed.

The arrest of the three suspects brought to five the number of people being held in connection with the chief’s murder.

Briefing DAILY GUIDE, the Deputy Accra Regional Police Commander, DCOP C.T. Yohuno, said the Police/Military patrol team was on a snap check duty at Amanfrom near Kasoa when they had a tip-off regarding the hideout of the suspects at Gbawe where the suspects were said to be hiding in a single room.

The team proceeded to the area, surrounded the house and arrested the three men.

The items discovered where hidden under their bed in the room.

The police chief said the suspects would be handed over to the homicide unit of the Police Headquarters, which would continue with the investigations.

Nii Kwaku Bibini, an exiled chief of Oblogo, was killed when he finally returned to the town on April 8, 2012.

This was after one Amidu Salifu was shot in the deceased chief’s palace on February 18, 2011.

The chief was arrested and remanded by a Circuit Court until January 2012 when he was granted bail.

Upon his release, he was banned by the court from entering Oblogo. However, together with his Council of Elders, the deceased appealed against the ban and succeeded.

He was attacked by the suspected killers when he re-surfaced at Oblogo.

The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Nii Laryea Afotey Agbo, had given the police three weeks to arrest the killers.
