Sunyani, April 17,GNA- Dr George Adjei–Hinneh, Brong Ahafo Regional Director of Education on Monday advised candidates writing the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) to obey the rules and regulations governing the exercise to avoid the cancellation of their examination papers.
The regional director gave the advice when he visited some examination centres in Sunyani municipality.
He urged them to concentrate on their papers and to work independently and to avoiding copying from friends.
“Even if you are smart and you are not caught by the invigilators, it will be detected by the examiner during marking of the papers and that can result in the total cancellation of your papers”, he cautioned.
Dr Adjei-Hinneh advised them to comport themselves very well so they would land into any trouble that would render as waste all that their parents had spent in educating them.
He asked the candidates to make sure they read carefully the instructions on the questions papers to understand every part of the question before answering them.
The regional director urged them not to panic but to relax “since the questions have been set based on what you have been taught and nothing new or different”.
Dr Adjei-Hinneh called on the invigilators to conduct thorough search on the candidates before they entered the examination hall to prevent them from sending any foreign material in to engage in examination malpractices.
“Any candidate found with a mobile phone at the examination hall will be punished since it can be used for texting answers among themselves and is against the examination rules.
Dr Adjei-Henneh later told the GNA in an interview there were few absentees among the candidates at all the centers visited and that showed the seriousness the children attached to the examination.
“This kind of confidence amongst the candidates indicates they are very well prepared”, he said.
He noted that the mock exams written and the extra classes organised for the candidates gave them adequate preparation and expressed the hope that they would perform excellently in this year’s examination.
The regional director indicated the high record of girls’ attendance at all the examination centres than the boys was a good sign the girls were keenly competing with the boys in education.
“Among all the centres visited only one girl was reported to be pregnant and failed to turn up to write the paper”, Dr. Adjei-Hinneh said.
