A 24-year-old woman in northwestern Cambodia’s Preah Vihear province gave birth to what officials are calling the first set of quadruplets recorded since Cambodia began tracking multiple births in 1999, a local newspaper reported Wednesday.
Ek Sarou, governor of Preah Vihear province’s Rovieng district, said Chhay Sopha delivered four children Tuesday morning at a district health center.
“I got the information from doctors at Rovieng Health Center, who said they are healthy,” the Phnom Penh Post quoted Ek Sarou as saying.
“Two baby girls and two baby boys.”
It took about an hour for Chhay Sohpa to give birth to the babies, who weigh between 1.3 and 2.2 km each, said Kong Ban, director of the health center.
Since 1999, 271 women have birthed triplets, said Sieng Tieng, an adviser to Prime Minister Hun Sen. Enditem
