$15,000 movable traffic lights for KMA

The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has taken delivery of three pieces of modern movable traffic lights, and two sets of brand new computers donated to it by the Great West Africa Mines, a Chinese mining company, to help ensure the maintenance of traffic and improve vehicular movement in the city.

The items, valued at $15,000, form part of the company’s social responsibilities, and was facilitated through its African-Asian director, Mr. Kofi Boateng, resulting from a visit to China last year by the KMA Chief Executive, Samuel Sarpong.

The traffic lights are modern and solar powered traffic which can be placed at vantage points temporarily to control movement of vehicles and pedestrians.

Presenting the items at a short ceremony organised at the forecourt of the assembly, the Chairman of the company, Mr. Song Hong, said the donation was in recognition of the efforts being made by the KMA towards improving the economic lives of the people in the metropolis.

He noted that his firm had been following with keen interest the difficulties in maintaining vehicular traffic, and decided to present the assembly with the movable traffic lights, which he said, had assisted his country solve the problem of vehicular congestion.

Mr. Hong indicated that his firm was willing to partner the KMA to ensure the creation of jobs for the youth, and bring about improvements of the lives of the people.

The City Mayor, who expressed his delight at the kind gesture, commended the Chinese firm for keeping to its promise, and pointed out that the equipment would go a long way to reduce the problems of vehicular congestion in the metropolis.
