The Elmina Police Command early yesterday morning arrested a 35-year-old pastor, Kwaku Awotwi, at Elmina for allegedly camping a female member of his church, Nhyira, also known as Esi, in his room for sex under the pretext of giving her spiritual guidance. Kwaku Awotwi, who hails from Bandoh in the Central Region, and is the leader and founder of God’s Power Ministry at Edina Essaman in the Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem (KEEA) Municipality of the region, is alleged to have kept Nhyira, 25, in his room for about four months without allowing her to go out. When the police arrived at the residence of the pastor with the media, Nhyira told the police that the pastor had not kidnapped her as was being speculated, adding that the Holy Spirit revealed to her to come and live with the pastor. Asked why she has been in-doors for almost four months without going out, she added that the Holy Spirit which lives in her ordered her to stay in-doors until she is told to go out. Nhyira who disclosed that the Holy Spirit speaks through her and that it was not her, who was speaking directly, stated that she used to sell bread at Accra where she first lost her child after delivery. She narrated that when she realised she was pregnant again, she decided to come to her mother at Essaman to deliver with the hope of not losing her child; but unfortunately lost her second child after delivery. She added that it was then that her mother decided that they seek spiritual intervention hence her stay in the pastor’s house. The alleged victim further disclosed that she could no longer walk due to her continued stay in-doors. Nyira, who noted that she has been with the said church for over a year now, bathes and attends nature’s call in the room with the help of the pastor and some of the church members. When asked why she has not been to the hospital since she could not walk, Nhyira who looked very pale stated that it was the Holy Spirit working in her thus there is no need for her to go to the hospital. Addressing the media after the visit to the pastor’s residence, the police disclosed that they read about the incident on one of the internet and decided to follow up which led to the arrest of the pastor. They noted that they cannot charge the pastor for any offence due to lack of evidence, adding that investigations into the matter will still continue. Meanwhile, the pastor was being interrogated at the police station as at the time of filing this report and will be allowed to go if nothing points to the fact that he indeed housed Nhyira to satisfy him sexually under the pretext of praying for her. Briefing the media at the police station, the mother of Nhyira, Ekua Ahema, however disputed the allegation that the pastor was camping her daughter. According to her, she and her daughter willingly decided and went to the pastor for spiritual intervention to deliver her daughter from constantly losing her children after giving birth. Madam Ahema added that her daughter had already given birth twice but lost them all immediately after child birth and therefore decided to look for spiritual intervention to cleanse her of the bad omen. She stated that she therefore approached the pastor who lives in the same vicinity with them and narrated her ordeal to him and later decided to send her daughter to live at the pastor’s residence for deliverance. Checks conducted by Today revealed that even though the pastor is married with kids, he was still able to accommodate Nhyira in his two room mud house. Some neighbours of the pastor alleged that the pastor was not telling the truth as they hinted of an amorous relationship with Nhyira. The neighbours also disclosed that Nhyira’s mother was helping him cover up his  misdeeds. Sources disclosed that Nhyira’s pale nature was due to her pregnancy with the pastor.
