Mr Dickson Kwarteng, the Dormaa West Disability Fund Management Committee Chairman, has appealed to the Government to increase persons with disabilities (PWDs) share of the District Assembly Common Fund (DACF) from three to five per cent.
He said the increase would enable the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies through such committees, on behalf of Government, to give substantial assistance in cash or kind to the PWDs because “most of them are in deprived conditions and languishing in poverty.”
Mr. Kwarteng made the appeal when he was speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency at Nkrankwanta, the District capital of the Bono region, about the plight of the PWDs in the area.
Touching on efforts being made by the Committee to promote the welfare of PWDs in the District, he said the increment of the fund would facilitate procurement of more relief items for distribution to more PWDs and to set up some of them to operate their own small businesses.
Mr Kwarteng gave the assurance that the Committee would continue to monitor effectively for judicious use of packages by beneficiaries of the fund.
