NDC Secretary Denies Arrest and Claims Immigration Service Statement Was Politically Motivated

Abraham Ahiabu, the Constituency Secretary for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Akatsi North, Volta Region, has denied reports that he was arrested or under investigation for possessing dummy ballot papers.

In a clarification to the media, Mr. Ahiabu stated that while he was questioned by the police, he has not been charged with any crime. He strongly criticized the statement by the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS), accusing it of being part of a broader strategy to justify the closure of borders in the Volta Region ahead of the December 7 elections.

The Ghana Immigration Service had earlier issued a statement claiming that its officers intercepted three booklets of dummy ballot papers—containing a total of 3,000 ballots—at Hevi, a border route in Akatsi North. According to the GIS, the interception occurred during a routine monitoring exercise in the Ave Havi area, en route to Vodome, a town in neighbouring Togo.

During questioning, Mr. Ahiabu reportedly explained that he was transporting the dummy ballots to Vodome to educate voters on how to properly cast their votes. He also claimed to possess an additional 20,000 dummy ballot booklets. The GIS handed him over to the Ghana Police Service for further investigation, and the three intercepted booklets were submitted to the Akatsi North District Electoral Commission for verification.

In response to the incident, Ahiabu dismissed the claims of wrongdoing, describing the situation as an attempt to create political tension ahead of the elections. The Ghana Immigration Service has promised to provide updates if new developments arise in the case.

NDC Vows to Complete Stalled Infrastructure Projects in Western Region if Elected

Dr. George Sipa-Adjah Yankey, former CEO of Ghana National Gas Company and ex-Minister of Health, has pledged that an incoming National Democratic Congress (NDC) government will complete stalled infrastructure projects in the Western Region within two years.

Speaking at a media engagement, Yankey emphasized that the NDC has a proven track record of delivering major projects on time, citing the Atuabo Gas Processing Plant, which was completed ahead of schedule. He questioned the prolonged delays in simpler projects such as interchanges, roads, and bridges under the current administration, asserting that the NDC’s leadership would manage these with greater efficiency.

“We have a proven record of completing projects efficiently,” Yankey stated. “The Atuabo Gas Plant, which was expected to take four years, was completed in just three. So why are basic projects like roads taking over four years?”

He called on voters in key constituencies, including Takoradi, Sekondi, and Essikado, to support the NDC and bring an end to what he described as the NPP’s failure to secure international funding for projects due to its lack of credibility.

Yankey also warned that the Western Region’s poor road conditions would persist if the NPP remained in power. “It’s time for a change,” he said. “We will deliver the progress this region deserves.”

Additionally, Dr. Grace Ayensu-Danquah, NDC parliamentary candidate for Essikado, accused poor leadership of stifling the region’s potential despite its wealth of natural resources. She lamented the decline of the region, which is rich in gold, cocoa, timber, bauxite, and oil, and compared it to Johannesburg, which, she noted, has seen more development despite its reliance on gold alone.

“The Western Region has all the resources, but it’s not developed,” Ayensu-Danquah said. “It’s time for us to demand better leadership.”

As the December 7 elections approach, both Yankey and Ayensu-Danquah are urging voters in the region to opt for a government that promises to bring meaningful change and development to the Western Region.

Our young people deserve to live in a Ghana where their voices are heard and their dreams become realities. The working people deserve decent, sustainable jobs that enable them to care for their families and live with pride. I mean well-paying jobs.

People in the public sector deserve recognition for their merit. They also deserve stability, predictability, and good working conditions. Our entrepreneurs deserve a free and fair market where their ingenuity and industry can flourish.

Women and girls deserve true equality, safety, and the chance to reach their full potential. And every Ghanaian deserves leadership that puts the people first, fights corruption, and builds a nation we can all be proud of.

This is why I am committed to building a stable, safe and viable 24-hour economy that creates opportunities for millions of jobs. I am committed to implementing economic measures to fight inflation and make food affordable for all households.

This is why I am committed to running the leanest government in our country’s history, with no more than 60 ministers and deputy ministers of state, a low number of political appointees, cutting wasteful government spending and scrapping the payment of ex-gratia.

This is why I am committed to waging a relentless war on corruption. Operation Return All Loot (ORAL) will be implemented with dedicated zeal to retrieve stolen loot for the country’s development and the benefit of our youth.

I will fight corruption to restore integrity and fairness, two critical ingredients missing from our governance.

Ladies and gentlemen, this is why I am committed to empowering women and ensuring they are no longer treated as second-class citizens. The stature of my able vice presidential candidate, Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, and the plan to set up a Women’s Development Bank to support the establishment of more women-owned businesses and our traders, from tabletop to large-scale businesses are practical demonstrations of that commitment.

My fellow Ghanaians, I cannot do this alone. Your vote is your voice, your vote is your power, and your vote is the key to unlocking a better future for Ghana.

I urge you to take action on Saturday. This is not a decision for another time, another election, or another generation. This is our moment, and the time is now to bring about the CHANGE we need to reset Ghana.

We need to reset our democracy, governance, economy, finances, agriculture, infrastructure, environment, health sector, and all that we hold dear as a people.

The vision to build the Ghana we want is a collective responsibility. Let us vote on Saturday to reject despair and choose hope. Vote to reject impunity and choose respect. Choose hardworking, experienced, and trustworthy leadership.

My comrades, Ghanaians will hold us to a higher standard than they have held the NPP. I want to remind you once again, that there is no use fighting for political power if we would come and commit the same atrocities they have inflicted on the people of Ghana these last 8 years. Ghanaians will put their trust in us, but we must prove ourselves worthy of that trust.

The change starts with you! And I promise you, we will work together.

December 7 is just two days away. I encourage you to vote John Mahama, and I will make you all proud of the Ghana we will build together.

We will be doing this for ourselves, our children, and generations to come.

Ladies and gentlemen, vote wisely. I want to caution the government, the military in particular, and the entire security system to resist the nefarious actions they are planning.

The General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Kodua Frimpong, has accused the main opposition party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), of resorting to tribal politics and religious denigration in their campaign strategy ahead of the December 7 elections.

Speaking at the NPP’s final rally at the University of Ghana on December 5, Kodua Frimpong expressed confidence in the NPP’s victory, stating, “We are winning the elections and nothing can stop it. Bawumia is the incoming president, and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) cannot stop it.” He further alleged that sensing defeat, the NDC had turned to divisive tactics, including tribalism and religious rhetoric, to undermine the electoral process. “Sensing their impending defeat, they have now resorted to tribal politics and religious denigration to create division,” he added.

At the same rally, former President John Agyekum Kufuor also appealed to Ghanaians to vote for the NPP’s flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, on December 7. In an interview with Property FM, Kuami Eugene explained that the intensity and sometimes awkward nature of the political discourse surrounding the upcoming elections inspired him to release the track. “I figured that the way we take elections in Ghana sometimes, we take the fun aspect out, but at the end of the day, we’re voting to help someone get a job,” he said.

The musician stressed that the election process should not only focus on selecting the right candidate but also on the well-being and safety of citizens. “Besides the fact that we have to vote for someone who deserves the position, we also have to think about our lives and our safety first,” he added.

In a candid interview with Amansan Krakye, Eugene expressed confidence in his financial success, stating, “Maybe if we talk about finances or monetary terms, like someone who has achieved so much fortune from music, then as for that one, I could stop doing music. Because I think that I have been able to accumulate so much money that if I decide to stop doing music today, I would never be poor or go hungry.”

Despite his financial security, the musician emphasized that his passion for music goes beyond monetary gain. “But doing music for me is not just about making money. The passion is also part of it, and the love for the music and putting information out there all the time,” he said.
