Fashion 101 goes on Multi TV’s CineAfrik

0

Hit television programme Fashion 101 is set to debut on pay-per-view channel CineAfrik, on Multi TV, this Saturday, January 28.

The fashion-oriented show which currently airs, and will continue to air on free-to-air network TV3, has in the past few weeks received rave reviews from a cross section of the Ghanaian viewing public.

Moments after the show had hit mainstream television four weeks ago, the producers were inundated with requests to have it shown on multiple networks, hence the addition of CineAfrik.

Fashion 101 will air on CineAfrik, 9:30 pm every Saturday evening.

“The overarching purpose is to ensure that on whichever platform you are on, you can get to enjoy the goodies Fashion 101 is offering, and also be part of that big club of dedicated viewers. Your Saturday evenings just got better.

“I am excited at this arrangement, and can’t wait to see the maiden edition air. This is a good step millions of Multi TV viewers can bask in and identify with. Fashion 101 is all about you,” says Sandra Ankobiah, hostess, Fashion 101.

On a typical Fashion 101 episode on CineAfrik, viewers will be treated to two segments; the first, known as Star Watch, where a panel including hostess Sandra and some two or three others, will dissect and analyze the fashion statements made by Ghanaian celebrities, on their various public outings including but not limited to award shows and premieres.

The second segment is the make-over session, where an individual is selected by the show’s producers, and made to undergo a personality beauty transformation. This process is handled by some of Ghana’s trusted names in fashion designing as well as Fashion 101’s in-house make-up stylist Mamess.

The 30-minute programme is executive produced and hosted by Sandra Ankobiah.

Fashion 101 is powered by Emerald Paradise Production, with support from the Aviation Social Centre.

Oscars® App is Now Live on the App Store for iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch

Award-Winning Second Screen Experience Launches With Key Enhancements:

Even More Video, the Oscar® My Picks Game, And New Watching And Sharing Features

The Oscars App Is Free This Year

This year’s official Oscars App is now live on the App Store for iPad, iPhone and iPod touch, providing fans unparalleled access to the 84th Academy Awards®.

Developed by the Academy and Disney/ABC Television Group’s Digital Media Team, the Oscars App is designed to be the ultimate complement to the live telecast, giving fans premier access to the most memorable moments of the night through exclusive live cameras strategically placed on the Red Carpet, throughout the Kodak Theatre, and even in the Governors Ball, which is the official Oscar party of the night. Special cameras include the Thank You Cam — offering winners an extended opportunity to thank their supporters; Backstage Cam — capturing sound bites, backstage action, short interviews and behind-the-scenes footage; Control Room Cam – allowing users to watch the show’s director in action; and Press Room Cam – featuring moments of winners in the press area.

“Many iPad, iPhone and iPod touch owners use their device daily while watching TV to look for show-related information,” said Karin Gilford, SVP of Digital Media for ABC.com. “Our goal is to utilize the best digital technologies to make sure those fans are having a really full, immersive experience leading up to, during and after the Oscars. We want this to be the next best thing to attending the show itself.”

“We love the level of interaction this app provides our fans,” said Christina Kounelias, chief marketing officer, Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. “It pulls back the curtain and takes viewers on a backstage experience that is fun and engaging. It allows fans access and vantage points that guests in the theater don’t have.”

The app debuted last year as an integral part of the Oscar Digital Experience, which won an Emmy for Creative Achievement in Interactive Arts. This year, the team has built on that success with a few key enhancements, including:

  • A much larger pre-show presence in a new magazine-style format. Fans who download the app between nominations and the live show will have access to original video from last year’s show, photos and – utilizing new iOS 5 Twitter integration – the latest social media buzz.
  • All video views are tracked through iCloud so viewers can keep track of what video they’ve watched regardless of the iOS device they are on.
  • Access to the hugely popular “Oscar My Picks,” an interactive play-along game that offers fans a chance to test their Oscar prediction skills. Once they fill out their ballot they can share and view their friends picks on Facebook. On Oscar Sunday, users play along during the show and predict category winners ahead of the opening of the envelopes. The app will refresh and calculate your results as categories are won.
  • Viewers can watch the live experience in two different modes: Watch or Direct. In Watch mode, the viewer will be guided through the live behind-the-scenes show. In the Direct mode, the viewer can select the cameras they want to use.
  • This year’s app will have a live video grid so the viewer can watch all available cameras at once or zero in on one that looks the most interesting to them.
  • Once in a camera view, a ticker will display over the video to tell viewers what is happening on other cameras. That way, if a fan’s favorite actor enters another view, they can jump to it quickly and easily.

“Our team really listened to what fans had to say last year, and made a huge effort to build on the things that worked to make them even better,” added Gilford.

The 84rd Academy Awards will be presented on Sunday, February 26, at the Kodak Theatre at Hollywood and Highland Center®, and televised live by the ABC Television Network.

The Oscars App is available for free from the App Store on iPad, iPhone and iPod touch, or at www.itunes.com/appstore.

Klottey Korle NDC Boils Constituents Up In Arms

0

Against MP Nii Armah Ashitey over

His Divide & Rule Policy, Promised to Spell Doom for NDC if He is retained

By: Prosper Agbenyega

The Greater Accra Regional Minister and NDC Member of Parliament for Klottey Korle Constituency is accused of dividing the whole constituency thereby creating serious enmity among members of the great ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).

The constituents, as well as members of the party are uncomfortable with the leadership style of their MP, referring to his leadership as being nothing short of a “divide and rule.”

In an interview with some of the aggrieved party faithfuls within the constituency, they averred that immediately after Nii Ashitey was elected MP, he has succeeded in driving majority of their constituency executives out of office. “He coined the teams ‘TEAM A’ for his supposed loyal supporters and ‘TEAM B’ for his imaginary enemies,” a supporter stated.

In another development, a group calling itself Concern Citizens of Klottey Korle Constituency NDC, had organised a press conference, a news briefing that was characterised by threats and disturbances purported to have been orchestrated by the Regional Minister and MP, who sent thugs to disrupt the press conference.

The group led by Ms. Mohammed Rasheed, mentioned that the MP has seriously incurred the wrath of the people in his constituency and that the people are no longer ready to have him contest as a parliamentary candidate.

According to them, “If he is not changed or step down, and contest the primaries and win with his lavish spending, thinking money is everything, then the party would certainly lose the seat in the 2012 elections.”

The Group however noted that none of them has any ill feeling for the MP but his own actions, stating that, “He is too boatful, expresses gross disrespect to constituents and full of pride.”

The group also alleged that, the MP is devising vile means to rig the results at the coming primaries. According to them, Nii Armah Ashitey is collaboration with the Constituency Secretary Mash Turkson, Constituency Organiser Maxwell Mingle, Vice Secretary Solomon Addo and Randy Kpakpo Fairbanks, holding secret meetings with them on how to plan and rig the elections.

“The plain truth is that the MP with the assistance of hi four henchmen hatched the plan to remove all the ward coordinators in the (7) wards of the constituency. This is because they are the ones who are in charge of all the branches and since they found that they cannot get them to support the fraud elections, they must be removed at all cost,” the group stated.

They are also of the view that Nii Armah Ashitey has flouted the party’s constitution, Article 15, with impunity by using police cum military to cow the people and forcibly hold ward elections.

The constituents are also aggrieved about the election of Mr. Harry Zakour as the constituency chairman. To them, Nii Ashitey brought Mr. Zakour to be endorsed illegally during the elections even when he did not meet the requisite requirements to contest that election. “Mr. Harry Zakour being made the constituency chairman is an indictment on us, an affront to the rule of law, and insult to our integrity.”

A Former Ward Coordinator, Mr. Desmond Guzy Quaye in an exclusive interview after the press conference hinted that the MP is going round distributing rice and cooking oil, clothes and dolling out cash to influence the delegates to vote for him. According to him, the said items were believed to be items that NADMO was to give to victims of the latest disaster that hit Odorna.

“Hon. Nii Armah Ashitey must go and come no more. He is not attractive and marketable to win the seat, we need a marketable candidate to bring us together for victory,” he said.

Mr. Guzy Quaye also reiterated that the people need a leader who speaks the language of unity, action, togetherness, and tolerance and performance indicators.

Korle-Bu Blues Prof. Hesse Seizes Estate Dpt.

0

… As She Hijacks 4 others

By: Prosper Agbenyega

The Director of Medical Affairs of Korle-Bu-teaching Hospital, Prof. Afua Jectey Hesse who has refused to resign her position has also taken over some core responsibilities of the Administrative set up of the hospital.

The Ghanaian Trust has gathered that Prof. Hesse who is holding on to the position as Director of Medical Affairs, has now taken over some of the responsibilities of the Director of Administration.

Reliable information available to this paper has it that, she is now in charge of the Human Recourse Department/Personnel, Public Relations, Transport, Sanitation and Estate.

As far as the estate matters are concern, Prof. Hesse is in full control, signing on to contracts and taking decisions in relation to estate matters. This development, according to many at the hospital is gradually crippling the progress of the hospital in that Prof. Hesse is into Medicals and there is no justification for her taken over estate which is to be handled by a professional.

A Korle-Bu Organogram (Korle-Bu Organisational Structure) in the possession of this paper spelling out clearly ones responsibilities as staff of the hospital, has it that Prof. Hesse by virtue of her position as Director of Medical Affairs is to oversee the Clinical Departments, Diagnostic Support Departments and Quality Assurance as her core duties.

The Ghanaian Trust has been following closely activities at the hospital and published stories to the effect that the Director of Medical Affairs at the hospital, Professor Afua Jectey Hesse is among persons engaging in dubious acts by taking Top-Up Allowances meant for consultants at the University Medical School, just to enrich their pockets whilst milking the consolidated fund dry.

It is on record that the Top-Up Allowances are some kind of stipend for extra work done, and this is only given to full-time employees of the Medical School who are rendering clinical services to the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital.

But one way or the other, Afua Jectey Hesse, who is a full-time employee at both the Medical school and the Korle-Bu hospital, managed to get her name onto the list of beneficiaries of the Top-Up without rendering any form of clinical service at the hospital.

Information is that she is not qualified to take the top ups because of the fact that she is a full time employee at both medical school and the hospital.

But she had on several occasions denied ever being a full time employee of the hospital. However, further checks to that effect revealed that she is in dual employment as she did not resign from UGMS at the time she took a permanent employment at KBTH. This act is believed to be criminal.

She is also believed have been confirmed as a permanent employee of KBTH through dubious circumstances by the Board Chairman and the CEO.  This has given her the opportunity to approve for payment of the “top-up” list though she is not the Spending Officer the hospital, whilst the CEO is the only Spending Officer of the hospital.

Interestingly, Prof. Hesse is alleged to have colluded with the Board Chairman and placed him on the “top-up” list though she knew he (Prof. Aryeetey) is not entitled to this money as spelt out in Act 525.

Thorough checks on the top up list identified Prof. Aryeetey as being a Surgeon. It has been found out that Prof. Hesse indicated the title surgeon against the Board Chairman’s name on the list of beneficiaries on the “top-up.” But information is that the Board Chairman is a Basic Scientist not a Surgeon and a lecturer at UGMS and as a Basic Scientist and a lecturer he does not render any clinical services to the hospital, therefore not entitled to top up.

Prof. Afua Hesse however, was reported to have committed all these financial crimes during her probation period but was confirmed by the CEO and the Board Chairman.

Attempts to contact her proved futile as according to sources, she is in Nigeria marking examination papers, leaving the core business of the hospital.

Reject Non-Performing MPs …Skirt & Blouse Association Demands

0

By: Prosper Agbenyega

A political grouping, Skirt and Blouse Association has renewed their warning to well meaning Ghanaians especially supporters of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) to reject Members of  Parliament (MPs) who are believed to non-performers as far as development of their various constituencies are concerned.

The group had on August 2, 2011 and September 13, 2011 respectively petitioned the President and the National Executive Committee of the NDC, revealing some gross incompetence, greed and self seeking parliamentarians, saying that their re-election could spell doom for the party in the 2012 elections.

The group which still stands by its claims that some of the MPs are enemies of progress as far as the realization of the government’s Better Ghana Agenda is concerned.

Pointing fingers at some of the NDC MPs for failing their constituencies, the Skirt & Blouse Association noted that, “Nii Armah Ashitey, MP for Klottey Korle, Nii Nortey Dua, MP for Ledzorkuku; Nii Amassah Namoale, MP for Dade Kotopon; Michael Teye Nyauno, MP for Lower Manya; Joseph Afote Agbe, MP for Kpone Katamanso, Theophilus Tettey Chaie, MP for Ablekuma Central have woefully failed the people.

The Association therefore indicated that since the President and the National Executives failed to acknowledge their petition, they are calling on delegates of the great NDC to vote wisely in the primaries so as to correct the mistakes they might have committed in the past. “If the NDC wants to avoid this political treachery and suicide in the 2012 elections, it starts with booting out these flowery incompetent MPs who could best be labelled as Adversaries of the Better Ghana Agenda.”
