The Strategic Plan is expected to guide the College in putting in place structures that would enable it to expand.

Speaking on the plan at a launching ceremony in Accra, Professor Cephas Omenyo, Provost of the College of Education said a lot of efforts had gone into the development of the plan, involving consultation with stakeholders.

He said that the College is committed to create an enabling environment that makes a college of education increasingly relevant to national and global development through cutting-edge ICT-driven high quality teaching and learning within the college.

“The College of Education is dedicated to the removal of barriers that restrict access to and success in university level studies and to increase the equality of educational opportunities for adults nationwide through our main campus, regional learning centres and innovative E-learning platforms,” he stated,

This would provide flexible and accessible opportunities for students constrained by personal circumstances, geography, finances or career and family obligations.

Prof Omenyo said the College’s new vision is to become a world-class ICT driven research-intensive college and called on stakeholders to join hands to achieve the vision.

The strategic plan is based on 10 priority areas.

These include: establishing a conducive environment for development and promotion of research, promoting academic excellence using state of the art technology in teaching and learning, promoting innovation, effective collaboration and participation among internal stakeholders, increasing student enrolment and improving faculty recruitment and promoting diversity and gender equity in the College.

Other priority areas are enhancing governance arrangements, financial planning and process management, asset acquisition and management, leveraging information and communication technology, monitoring and evaluation and building external linkages.

Prof Ernest Aryeetey, Vice Chancellor of the University of Ghana, who chaired the launch said the plan by the College, signals to the world that the academic entity is changing and is not held hostage to old disciplines but anxious and ready to reform its structures and bring in new things.

He said in order to show that the university is into doing new things as well as old things in new ways, the College is expected to, as much as possible, use new technologies in delivering its mandate.

“It is my hope that with this new emphasis, this university will be seen in the years to come as the most modern, most up-to-date and most relevant in terms of meeting the needs of students and the wider community,” he stated.

Mr Felix Nyarko-Pong, Chairman of the College Advisory Board and Chief Executive Officer of Unibank Ghana Limited, who launched the Strategic Plan pledged the commitment of the board and management to guide the College to achieve the goals set out.

Reverend Dr Joyce Aryee, a member of the Advisory board also launched the College’s cloth, which she noted, is very important as it gives the college an identity unique to it.
