Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, flagbearer of the NPPThe New Patriotic Party has maintained that its “Zongo” Development fund is a well thought-out policy that is aimed at boosting the infrastructure deficit of deprived inner-cities across the country.

The spokesperson for the NPP flagbearer, Mustapha Hamid in an interview with Joy FM estimated that there are over 240 Zongo communities across the country and the cost of improving their infrastructure will amount to $100 million.

Speaking on Joy FM’s News Night, Mustapha Hamid admitted that it is not possible to execute the project in the first year of an NPP government; rather the project will be undertaken on a rotation basis across the country.

Mustapha Hamid said funds will be allocated to infrastructural development of such communities in the first budget of an Akufo-Addo led government after which subsequent budgets will cater for the rest of the communities.

The spokesperson for Nana Addo said the programme has been well thought out and therefore the NPP government will not fail Ghanaians on this promise.

According to Mustapha, it is important for governments to take bold initiatives to eradicate the problems its citizens are facing.

Meanwhile, a sociologist, Professor Dominic Agyemang has lauded the idea by the NPP flagbearer describing it as ‘desirable and feasible’.

Speaking in an interview on Joy FM, Prof Agyemang alluded to a similar project Germany undertook after it was devastated by the World War II.

According to Prof. Agyemang, should the NPP get the nod, it must not rush the project, rather take its time and execute it over a long term plan.
