In an address to party supporters gathered to congratulate him for his successful tenure as African Union chair in 2015, Mugabe said Africa had become tired of being undermined in the world body.

United Nations“I said in my speech as the outgoing chair of African Union in January that time had come for us to tell the whites that we can pull out and create another organization,” he said.

In the speech at the AU summit in Addis Ababa last month, Mugabe said it was no use for Africa to remain in the UN when it was not being accorded the respect it deserves.

Mugabe has been one of the most vocal leaders from Africa calling for the reform and democratization of the UN system so that it grants Africa more permanent seats in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).

Africa is demanding at most two permanent seats on the UNSC, which is currently made up of five permanent members, namely, United States, Britain, France, Russia and China. Enditem
