Tanzania’s semi autonomous archipelago, will soon start oil exploration by using airborne full tensor gravity (FTG) technology, said Zanzibar Minister for Lands, Water, and Energy Environmen on Sunday.

Minister Salama Aboud Talib said that UK-based Bell Geospace Enterprises Limited (Bell Geo) will use special aircraft for the exploration work to take place in all areas of land and sea including large and small islands in Zanzibar archipelago.

In her statement, Talib said that the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar’s Antrim Resources (Tanzania) Limited, appointed Bell Geo to conduct an airborne full tensor gravity survey in Zanzibar.

She said the survey will take about four months.

Air-FTG data measures a 3D gravity field with each individual component facilitating the identification and mapping of subsurface geological complexity, be it complex shape and variable thickness to its geological setting. The results will help in identifying the exploration for oil and gas. Enditem
