black out electricity

Zambia’s power utility has warned of increased electricity cuts due to reduced generation capacity caused by poor rains, according to a statement seen by Xinhua on Tuesday.

black out electricityState-run power utility Zesco Limited said it has been compelled to reduce generation due to the poor rainfall performance during the 2014/1015 rain season which has resulted in low water levels and low river inflows into its reservoirs.
“This reduction in generation will escalate load shedding at peak hours especially in this winter period,” the company’s marketing and public relations department said in the statement.

The power utility has since called on its customers to join in a campaign to save power by switching off all unnecessary gadgets in order to minimize power cuts.

Zambia experienced poor rainfall during the 2014/2015 season which resulted in long dry spells in some areas and affected agricultural harvests. About 90 percent of Zambia’s power is generated through hydro. Enditem
