Zambian President Edgar Lungu on Thursday appointed eight new high court judges and urged them to ensure speedy and fair delivery of justice.

Lungu swore in the new judges at the State House.

“As you join the bench, your first task is to address one of the biggest concerns by members of the public relating to the delay in the disposal of court cases,” he said.

The Zambian leader said he expects to see improvement in the time taken to dispose of court cases following the appointment of the new judges.

He urged the judges to guard the integrity and independence of the judiciary by carrying out their functions without outside influence, adding that the executive will continue to uphold the doctrine of separation of powers and the independence of the judiciary. Enditem
