Zambia’s Permanent Representative to the African Union (AU) Emmanuel Mwamba on Tuesday said it was unfortunate that some western countries were unfairly criticizing the relationship between China and Africa despite the tangible development support the continent had received from China.

In remarks delivered at the China-Africa Cooperation seminar under the theme “Sustaining China-Africa Friendship for a Bright New Chapter,” the Zambian envoy said the cooperation was based on a win-win basis, according to a release.

According to him, the construction of the Tanzania-Zambia Railway Authority (TAZARA) symbolized the deep mutual cooperation between China and Africa, adding that China made huge sacrifices in financial, technical and human resources to complete the project.

The Zambia-China development cooperation was based on mutual respect as China did not interfere in internal affairs of the country and attached no political conditions to the support and aid given to Zambia, he added.

Liu Yuxi, Chinese Head of Mission to the AU, said external malicious slander that accused China of neo-colonialism and setting African countries into a debt-trap were designed to undermine the relationship between China and Africa.

China, he said, was driven to ensure that Africa achieved its development goals by implementing the outcomes of the Forum on China Africa Cooperation (FOCAC).

According to him, FOCAC aspires to build a closer community and a shared future. Enditem
