Businesses in Zambia showed signs of recovery in February, with both output and new orders returning to growth during the month, a survey released on Wednesday has revealed.

The Purchasing Managers Index, a monthly survey conducted by Stanbic Bank Zambia, said the upswing in business operations was due to improving demand and softening of inflationary pressures, with both input costs and output prices rising at slower rates for the second month running.

The survey revealed business operations have improved to 50.2 from 48.1 in January, marking the first time the index was above 50.0 in seven months.

According to the survey, readings of above 50.0 signal an improvement in business conditions on the previous month while readings below 50.0 show a deterioration.

Victor Chileshe, the bank’s Head of Global Markets said improved output and new orders in February weighed in considerably on the marginal improvement in business sentiment. Enditem
