Zambia has been chosen to host the regional secretariat for the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), foreign minister Joseph Malanji said on Sunday.

The office will be the UN regional secretariat for SDGs in the Southern African Development Community (SADC) regional bloc, he said.

It will be launched in June in Lusaka, the country’s capital, and the launch will be attended by representatives of all SADC member countries, Malanji said.

Zambia’s hosting of the secretariat was announced at the just-ended SADC meeting in Windhoek, Namibia, the Zambian minister said in a press release.

He thanked the UN and other SADC member countries for giving Zambia an opportunity to host the regional headquarters. Enditem
