Zambia’s tax agency on Thursday announced an extension to the period in which all bank account holders should acquire a tax identification number.

In July this year, the Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) ordered all people with bank accounts to register for Tax Payer Identification Numbers (TPIN) by the end of this year and warned that all those who fail to do so will have their accounts frozen.

But Topsy Sikalinda, the tax agency’s corporate affairs manager said the period has been extended from 31 December 2017 to 31 March 2018.

“After considering the current challenges in registering for TPINs, the authority has resolved to extend the deadline in order to allow more eligible people to comply, especially those in peri-urban areas and rural areas,” he said in a statement. Enditem
