The Zambia Cotton Ginners Association (ZCGA) said the country is expected to produce 130,000 tons of copper from 95,000 tons produced in the previous season.
Bourne Chooka, the association’s executive secretary, attributed the increase in production to the rise in the number of farmers and hectares planted in the period under review.
“The cotton marketing season has commenced for the 2014/15 season. We are ready and are looking forward to a successful marketing season. The country is also expecting to buy 130,000 ton of cotton compared to the previous season when only 95,000 tons was bought,” he was quoted as saying by the paper.
The official however said the price of cotton was influenced by prevailing international cotton lint prices on the world market but indicated that buyers will provide the best price for the farmers to continue growing cotton. Enditem
