In remarks delivered during the launch in Lusaka, the country’s capital, Lungu said the establishment of the e-government will ensure that there is standardization and cohesion of ICT systems across the public service to reduce duplication.

Lungu has since moved the e-government system to be under his office.

The Zambian leader has also directed ministers and other senior officials in government ministries to prioritize the implementation of ICT in government operations in order to accelerate sustainable development across the country.

The Zambian leader however said there is need to systematically invest in ICT infrastructure for connectivity to be made available across the country in order to reduce the digital divide and ensure that there is equal distribution of digital access to the project.

The government, he added, will also develop data centers for e-government across the country.
He further directed ministries responsible for education to design a strategy that will focus on the use of ICTs across all academic disciplines.

Finance Minister Alexander Chikwanda said during the same occasion that the launch of e-government will be a pillar towards increasing productivity and reducing costs of doing business through having a centralized and standardized government ICT infrastructure.

The move, he said, will improve service delivery to citizens as there will be efficiency in public service operations. Enditem
