Authorities in Zambia intercepted 194 trucks carrying suspected illegally harvested timber logs as they were transiting through the country last year, a senior Zambian government official said on Tuesday.

Minister of Home Affairs Stephen Kampyongo said out of a total of 466 intercepted trucks, 272 were verified to have had legal documents to export the logs from the originating countries and were allowed to exit Zambia while 194 could not be cleared because they had no legal documents to export the logs from the originating country and were forfeited to the state.

Meanwhile, the government has decided to export the intercepted timbers logs in order to raise funds for the country, said the minister. Enditem
