Honey farmers in northwestern Zambia said Wednesday that they were ready to partner with Chinese bee farmers and to start exports to China.

Kabompo Bee Keeper Association manager Victor Muhanga said there was a huge market in China which the Zambian beekeepers want to take advantage of.

“We are ready to supply honey to China, we work with the ministry of agriculture and the Zambia Bureau of Standards for technical support and we are ready to export our pure honey to the Asian country,” Muhanga said.

According to Muhanga, the honey farmers in the province were also looking for a partnership with the Chinese apiculturists for increased exports of the products to China.

Muhanga said currently the association has eight tons of honey which were ready for the export market.

There are over 2,000 honey farmers in Kabompo and Zambezi districts of northwestern Zambia.

He is optimistic that Chinese farmers will be found who can partner with Zambians to help grow the honey industry in Zambia. Enditem
