Authorities in Zambia on Tuesday denied reports that results for senior secondary school leaving examinations for 2017 have been nullified due to rampant malpractices.

Michael Chilala, director of the Examination Council of Zambia (ECZ), which sets and conducts examination, said the information circulating on social media purporting that the 2017 grade 12 examination result have been nullified were false an should be disregarded.

“The results are valid and the school leavers will access the statements of results during the week beginning January 31 from their examination centers,” he said in a statement.

He said the results were duly approved before being announced.

The results were announced last Friday with a pass rate increasing from 61.9 percent to 64.8 percent.

Ministry of General Education Permanent Secretary Henry Tukombe also urged members of the general public to ignore the false reports.

The permanent secretary attributed the good performance by the school leavers to hard work by teachers and administrators. Enditem
