CAF has slapped Zambia coach Herve Renard with a US$10,000 suspended fine and warned him for his pronouncements after the Chipolopolo bombed out of the Africa Cup of Nations at the group stage.

Renard slammed CAF by saying CAF and FIFA did not think Zambia was not good enough to play in the 2014 FIFA Confederations Cup.

Renard said on January 30 that he believed CAF and FIFA denied Zambia a chance to play in this year?s FIFA Confederations Cup in Brazil and preferred teams like Cote  d?Ivoire to make it to the final because they were not sexy enough.

Zambia, enjoyed the shortest reign after CAF last year changed the tournament from even to odd years, is the first Africa Cup winner not to participate in the FIFA Confederations Cup which is a curtain-raiser for the FIFA World Cup.

That privilege has instead been handed to the winner of the 2013 edition.

?The CAN Orange 2013 Organizing Committee in its last meeting held February 4th 2013 in Johannesburg examined the case of the National team coach of Zambia Mr. Herve Renard, concerning the offending comments he made against CAF on The Sunday Times newspaper following the match Burkina Faso vs. Zambia, played in Mbombela on 29/01/2013 as well as the letters of apology sent by his association and himself,? CAF stated.

?The Organizing committee accepted the apology of the coach, however, in order to ensure the non-repetition of such behaviour which tarnishes the image of CAF and its officials, the Committee decided to issue M. Renard a warning and impose a suspended fine of 10.000 US dollars upon him, provided no repetition of such behaviour occur within the coming year.?

The winner of this year?s Africa Cup will be placed in Group B in Brazil alongside World and European champions Spain, South American kings Uruguay and Oceania champions Tahiti.
