Earlier this week, the NBA, ExxonMobil and Africare announced a new youth empowerment program called ?Power Forward? that will leverage a rising interest in basketball to teach young people life skills and public health knowledge. The first year of the program will be taking place in Nigeria, but there is potential to expand to other countries in future years.

Timed to this announcement, Darius Mans, the President of?Africare?has authored a piece about the potential of young people to transform economies around the world and how sports can help equip youth with the skills they need to drive this change. Africare runs a number of long-term programs in Ghana?and is committed to finding innovative approaches to improving health and lives across Africa.
