Alhaji Hamidan has been accused of abuse of office

The youth of Asokore Mampong in the Ashanti Region are demanding the removal of their Municipal Chief Executive, Alhaji Nurudeen Hamidan, who they have accused of unwarranted demolition of properties and seizure of private lands.

According to the group, the rate at which Alhaji Hamidan has been demolishing people’s houses without recourse to the law is likely to have a dire consequences on the assembly in a form of a possible judgment debt.

The youth who come under the banner, Concerned Youth of Asawasi, on Tuesday demonstrated against the MCE, after which they petitioned President John Mahama through the Ashanti Regional Minister, to immediately remove him from office.

“The youth of this community want the MCE removed because he is setting the pace for lawlessness in the community. At least, his actions should have been approved by the court of law,” the petition read in part.

They argued that Alhaji Hamidan has been abusing his office and subjecting the people in the municipality to injustices. “The MCE is now more of liability to the community than an asset and we the youth of the community have lost all trust in the MCE and are calling for his immediate removal from office,” they demanded.

According to them, the MCE has been “confiscating privately owned land belonging to individuals under the pretence that it is government land,” alleging that he later goes behind the scene to negotiate with the affected persons, with an offer to give them half of whatever land he seizes as he keeps the other half.

To them, the action and behaviour of the MCE undermines the peace and security of the municipality, hence their demand for his removal to ensure peace. They have thus vowed to put pressure until President Mahama removes Alhaji Hamidan from office.

According to them, Tuesday’s protest is the first in a series of planned peaceful protests to be organised to pressurize President Mahama to make sure Alhaji Hamidan is removed from office.
